Importance of becoming a Learning Organization
The concept of “Learning Organization” came in to the spotlight
around year 1990. As per Senge Learning Organizations were defined as “those
where people are continually learning how to learn together”.
1.
System thinking
2.
Mental Models
3.
Shared Vision
4.
Personal Mastery
5.
Team Learning
Organizations
that practices above disciplines will establish following strengths.
1.
Systematic Problem Solving
2.
Learning from Past experience
3.
Learning from others
4.
Benchmarking (in the industry)
5.
Transferring knowledge fast and effectively by
seconding those with new knowledge.
When we examine these factors it indicates that an organization
having these will definitely have a competitive advantage. (Marquardt,
2011)
These factors will speed up the decision making process of
an organization while the decisions made tend to be more accurate.
Organizational amnesia is again a common failure reason in
today s business arena, thus learning from past experience and learning from
others will play a major role to avoid such situations in a learning organization.
Adding to that learning from others as well as speedy transferring
of knowledge will increase readiness to change, flexibility as well as more alignment
to the latest developments of the industry. (Marquardt,
2011)
Benchmarking is crucial for employer branding. This will
increase the EVP (Employer Value Proposition) in the eyes of potential
employees. Thus the company will have better changes of attracting and retaining
the highly talented employees.
The employees at learning organizations will be more loyal,
more engaged as well as more motivated since this culture of the organization ensures
the personal development of people allowing them to achieve their aspirations
while achieving the organizational goals.
(Education,
2014)
Hence, it is crucial that employers understand the importance
of becoming a learning organization and working towards establishing the
culture
